You can recycle old tires – for free – in Richmond

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. — In an effort to help clean-up Richmond homes and businesses, the city is hosting a free tire recycling/tire amnesty event.

Home and business owners are encouraged to bring old, unwanted, and abandoned tires to 1710 Robin Hood Road (across from the Ashe Center) on Saturday, June 4.

“Abandoned tires are a danger to public health and the environment,” a Richmond Department of Public Utilities spokesperson said. “Abandoned tires become infested with mosquitos, rodents, and snakes. They also create a potential environmental danger by increasing the risk of fire. Burning tires create very intense heat and are extremely difficult to extinguish. Run-off from tires can also contaminate surface water and pollute the James River.”

Tires will be collected from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Anyone with questions about the event can call the DPU Water Resources Division at 804-646-0177.
