CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Police officers are sworn to protect and serve — and sometimes that duty goes beyond the people in their community.

After a group of Chesterfield Police officers responded to two women arguing near Hull Street Road and Courthouse Road, they found another party in need — a turkey.

“The turkey approached Hull Street Road, and when it almost went out into traffic the officers decided to pick up the wandering bird,” a police spokesperson said about the May 1 incident. “Sgt. Kuzik, who owns chickens, volunteered to grab the turkey. Once the bird was in hand, the officers were able to find its owner, who lives nearby, and the turkey made it home.”
