Heavy rainfall from the past week has caused rivers across southern Virginia to reach or exceed flood stage.  River flood warnings are in effect for the Dan, Meherrin and Roanoke rivers through Sunday.  In most cases, river levels will crest from one to three feet above flood stage.

Rainfall from Wednesday through early Friday afternoon ranged anywhere from two to over four inches across that area.  On this map, yellow areas are 1″+ of rainfall, orange areas are 2″+, red areas are 3″+, and purple areas are 4″+.

Across the rest of Virginia, most rivers should stay at least a little below flood stage.  The very dry weather from March and April caused river levels to drop, so the influx of water this week has not pushed them up to their banks.
