SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. -- An AMBER Alert has been cancelled in Virginia after three-year-old Zion Williams was found, unharmed, Thursday afternoon, according to law enforcement. The child was located with a grandparent. It was unclear when Zion was dropped off with the grandparent.

The alert was issued Wednesday night when police said Zion's father, 28-year-old Joshua Williams, assaulted Zion's mother and abducted the child.

Williams, the father, was arrested and he surrendered peacefully when investigators found him at a home on Falcon Drive.

He was not with Zion at the time of his arrest.

"Detective work led investigators to Mr. Williams," Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jeff Pearce said. "We are grateful the child was returned safely and pleased Mr. Williams surrendered peacefully."

Williams is charged with abducting the child and and maliciously wounding charges Zion's mother.

She received serious injuries to her face, head and upper body and had to be taken to emergency room for treatment, Pearce said.
