CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Two people were shot Thursday around 8 a.m., just before a school bus pulled up to the stop in the 4100 block of Mallard Landing Circle in Midlothian. One person shot suffered life-threatening injuries, and one has died, according to Chesterfield Police.
A police investigation confirmed two teens were involved in a drug transaction. The two exchanged gunshots and both males were struck.
Chase S. Harris, 17, of Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. Harris was attending evening GED courses at Carver College & Career Academy.

The second victim, who collapsed in front of the bus, was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The identity of the second victim has not been released, but police confirms the teen is 17 years old and is a student at L.C. Bird High School.
Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
Mallard Landing Circle is in the Mallard Cove Apartments complex off Genito Road.
Photos from the shooting scene show a school bus #398, assigned to Bailey Bridge Middle School, surrounded by crime tape. Parents of students on the bus said the bus pulled up to the stop immediately after the shooting.
"The kids heard the gunshots, but I don't think anyone saw him get shot," parent Marlon Harris said.
Police confirmed that students did not see the shooting but that one of the victims ran toward the bus. Passerbys helped administer aid to a victim in front of the bus. Officers and school administrators are working to identify all students who were on board, to make sure they are okay.
Harris' daughter, who was on the bus bound for Bailey Bridge Middle School, got off the bus and went home.
"The kids came home on their own," Harris said. "I ended up driving a bunch of them to school."
An 11-year-old girl, who was on the bus at the time, said she heard the gun shots and everyone on the bus screamed and ducked down. She said some children were crying.
Police said it appears the victim and suspect knew one another, and that the may have both emerged from a vehicle parked near where the shooting occurred. Police recovered weapons from the scene, and said that they are not searching for any suspects currently.
Roads around the apartment complex were shutdown immediately, but have reopened. Now just the immediate area around the crime scene is taped off. The complex was very active at the time of the shooting, police said, with many people preparing for work and school.
Police said that this type of call is very uncommon for the area, and for Chesterfield in general.
