Suspect on the loose after shooting near Petersburg school

PETERSBURG, Va. – Police are searching for a suspect after a shooting in the 100 block of North Church Street in Petersburg Wednesday afternoon. The location of the shooting is about a block away from Blandford Academy, located at 816 E Bank St.

During the search for a suspect, officers secured the school to ensured student safety because of its proximity to the shooting scene. Classes were interrupted for about 20 minutes.

Police said they received a call for a man shot shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The victim received treatment at the scene and was flown to VCU Medical Center. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

There is no suspect description at this time. Police are still investigating the incident.
