80-year-old hiker missing in Shenandoah National Park

LURAY, Va. — Search crews are in Shenandoah National Park looking for Wallace Anderson. Anderson, an 80-year-old hiker from Rappahannock County, was reported missing Saturday evening.

“Multiple agencies and organizations are assisting [in the search for Anderson],” a park spokeswoman said. “Over 100 trained ground searchers and multiple dog teams are working to find Mr. Anderson today. No volunteers are needed at this time.”

Anderson was described as an avid hiker.

His aluminum hiking poles were also missing from his home near Old Hollow Road.

He was described as a 5’9” man who weighs approximately 145 pounds.
