KING AND QUEEN COUNTY, Va. – Students from King and Queen Central High School have walked out of the school, they said in support of their principal, Mr. Antoine Monroe.
The principal was removed on Friday and placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, confirmed Dr. Carol Carter, Division Superintendent.
Carter only said the leave is a personnel matter, and could not provide additional information. She would not say if the investigation was a criminal matter.
Students submitted videos that showed a crowd gathered, holding signs and shouting in favor of their principal’s return. The students walked out of class to protest Monroe’s leave of absence, according to the videos. The crowd can be seen in the video as they marched around the school entrance.
“Who do we want?” screamed a protester.
“Monroe!” the crowd screamed back.
“When do we want him?”
“Now!”
Students have a right to peaceful demonstration, Carter said, and have not been suspended for their actions. She said that administrators hope to restore the academic environment later today.
Anyone not in class will be counted absent, she said.
