COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- Cloudy weather did not keep crowds away from the third annual Until The Pieces Fit autism fundraiser in Colonial Heights Saturday morning.

Over just three years, the event has quadrupled in size raising money for the Autism Society of Central Virginia.

More than 125 vendors set up shop at Colonial Heights Middle School for the fundraiser, which also helps spread awareness about autism.

The society provides services, support, scholarships and workshops to families impacted by autism in Central Virginia.

“The annual cost for raising a child with Autism is anywhere from $70,000 to $100,000 more than just their basic care,” Until The Pieces Fit Coordinator Karen Isik said. “So it`s extremely important that we raise money to the Autism Society, that way they can help families, just like mine."

There are around 2200 students in public schools diagnosed with autism in Central Virginia. Experts say the number continues to grow.

All the money raised at the event will help families in our area.
