RICHMOND, Va. — There is a chicken fight about to take place West Broad Street. It’s not between two drivers headed towards each other. It is between two fast food restaurants that specialize in chicken.

Days after the Arby’s on West Broad Street, across from the state DMV, closed its door, CBS 6 confirmed there are plans for a Zaxby’s to go in that space.

Ryan Converse, with CWC Food Services/DBA Zaxby’s, said his group purchased the Arby’s and planned to remodel the building into a Zaxby’s.

They hoped to have the new restaurant open in the fall.

The new Zaxby’s,  located at 2309 West Broad Street, will be adjacent to a Chicken Fiesta — which opened in 2014.

Chicken Fiesta serves Peruvian rotisserie chicken and Tex-Mex.

Zaxby’s menu features a variety of chicken dishes like chicken fingers and chicken wings.

Arby’s closes, sign comes down after 48 years in Fan

After 48 years in business, the Arby’s near DMV closed its doors last week. Work crews took the big hat sign down last Thursday morning.

Owner Dean Kovanes made the decision to close the location that his father originally opened.

“It is with both joy and sadness that Arby’s at 2309 W. Broad Street will be closing its door for the final time,” Kovanes wrote on a note left on his restaurant’s door. “A lot has changed since we first opened our doors on August 26, 1968.”
