PETERSBURG, Va. -- As fans around the world are mourning the loss of Prince, a funeral home in Petersburg is giving fans a place to gather to remember the music icon.
"Well, Prince was one of my favorites. I'm a musician and he was an awesome musician," Joe Johnson, the owner of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home on Sycamore Street, said.
A special video and music from Prince played across the chapel speakers Thursday at noon as fans like Wanda Ragsdale came to pay their respects.
"I couldn't get to Minnesota where he's from, so this is my way of paying appreciation to one of the icons," said Ragsdale, who has seen Prince 3 times in concert.
Suzette Flowers, who arrived wearing a Prince t-shirt, said the artist touched so many lives.
"It's a way to kinda bring us closer to somebody we never met, but we have a close affiliation within our spirits somehow," she said.
Many who sat in the chapel used their cellphones to record the video and music.
"I'm so thankful our town would think about Prince like that because I think he meant a lot to a lot of people," said Lesse Wright-Parrish, who spent about a half hour reflecting on the man and his music.
