PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va -- A deputy was shot while responding to a home Tuesday night. Investigators say the suspect then barricaded himself inside the home.

Deputies were called to the home of Brian Cundiff in Pittsylvania County Tuesday night. His family had called 911 asking for help from law enforcement. When they arrived, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office says Cundiff opened fire, hitting one of the deputies.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injures. The deputy was treated and released.

Between 30 and 40 members of law enforcement, including Virginia State Police officers, responded to the home. A SWAT team eventually forced its way inside, and Cundiff surrendered.

The standoff ended at around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Cundiff is charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
