RICHMOND, Va. – This story is for diners who would appreciate consuming a four-course meal prepared for them by Chef Peter Chang, in a more alluring environment than a suburban Wal-Mart strip mall, as two enthusiastic journalists talk to Chang about his journey from Hubei Province, China to the mid-Atlantic and his professional ascent.
Full Disclosure host Roben Farzad will be joined by Style Weekly food and drink editor Brandon Fox for a special podcast event at the Hippodrome Theater.
Farzad said they both have a fascination with Chef Chang; his food, his fans, and the national success well documented by news outlets.
Farzad had a hard time just naming one favorite dish made by Chang, who is a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Award – think Academy Award of the restaurant world.
“I tried the hot and numbing tofu,” he said of the first moment he fell hard. “Which made my face feel different.”
“I love the Szechuan double-cooked chicken,” he continued. “I never much knew leeks before, but he has given me a new appreciation for them.”
Farzad and Fox decided to combine forces for an event, and convinced Chang to prepare a menu featuring his signature Sichuan style.
“He’s a man quite proud of his craft,” added Farzad.
The venue holds 250, and the audience can expect a delicious meal in a classy, historic venue. Chang will stick around and shake hands.
“He loves his fans,” Farzad said.
Farzad launched the hour-long talk show, produced in Richmond, two years ago. It airs on WRIR-FM 97.3, and can also be found on NPR one, Soundcloud and iTunes.
The show highlights stories of business and economics found in unconventional places.
“Business is a prism through which to tell so many stories,” Farzad said.
This isn’t his first event at the Hippodrome. He recently taped an episodewith John and Sherry Petersik, the local husband and wife team behind the Young House Love brand.
Tickets for the Sunday, May 15 event have been on a sale for a day and are selling at a fast clip, according to Farzad.
