ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Redskins have agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Josh Norman, according to multiple reports.

The 28-year-old has signed a five-year, $75 million deal, with $50 million in guarantees according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Friday Norman flew to the D.C on the Redskins private plane for a visit at the Redskins Ashburn facility. Reports said Redskins brass, wouldn’t let him leave without a contract, which they didn’t.

Norman’s $75 million contract makes him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

The signing fills a big area of need for the team who has struggled at the cornerback position for years. Norman was a 5th round draft pick out of Coastal Carolina by the Carolina Panthers, and helped them make the Super Bowl in January. He had 4 interceptions last year and returned two of them for touchdowns. He also had 2 fumble recoveries, and will be a big boost to a secondary that plays several of the league’s best wide receivers twice each year in the NFC East.

After the deal was agreed Norman sent out a tweet to Redskins nation.

This comes just two days after the Panthers rescinded their non-exclusive franchise tag on Norman and cut him outright. Reports out of Charlotte said the two sides were very far apart on a long-term deal.
