HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police are investigating after someone broke into a Moody Middle School early Thursday morning.

An alarm at the school on Woodman Road in Henrico was triggered around midnight. When police arrived, they found an outside door in the back of the school damaged.

Once inside the school building, police found at least two interior doors also damaged.

One door had been pried open and the glass was shattered out of a second door.

Police K-9 officers searched school grounds to make sure there was no one hiding in the building. Police eventually cleared the property.

Henrico Police said it did not appear anything was stolen, but said they would not know for sure until teachers and staff returned later Thursday morning to check their areas and take an inventory.

There was no suspect information to be released at this time.

Despite the police presence hours before, classes at Moody Middle School were on time. Some parents dropping of their children had their concerns.

“I was shocked, pretty shocked,” Erwin Bacon said. “I can’t believe someone would do that to a school.”

“I was worried because if they didn’t steal anything, why did they do it?” 7th grader Quinn Green asked. “Maybe they were just messing around, but it’s just a little bit uneasy.”

“I’m sure they’ll find them and punish accordingly,” parent Allison Rea said.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around midnight near Moody Middle should call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
