RICHMOND, Va. -- The slow-moving weather pattern has kept us on the receiving end of a great stretch of weather.  However, we really need some rain.  March was an extremely dry month, falling three inches short of normal.  April thus far has only produced an inch of rain, and with the next chance of rain waiting until Friday, April's rainfall deficit will surpass one inch.

The upper-air pattern across the United States is blocked, and this is keeping a major storm stuck in the central part of the country.  Just over the next 48 hours, multiple inches of rain will fall in the Plains, where some places have already picked up over six inches of rain.  Parts of the Rockies have received two feet of snow, and more will continue into Monday.

What is left of that system will arrive on Friday.  By the time it reaches us, it will have much less moisture to work with, and the system will move through fairly quickly.  As of now, it looks like the best chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms will be Friday afternoon and evening.  Rain should exit on Saturday, leaving the bulk of next weekend dry.
