ATLANTA — A retired Georgia police officer apparently attempted suicide in a DeKalb County courtroom on Thursday by drinking poison after he was convicted on child molestation charges.

Kelless Twohearts Lory, 58, of Stone Mountain, was convicted of two counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation, according to a press release from DeKalb County.

The abuse happened between July 2011 and July 2012. The victim, who was nine years old when the abuse started, testified during the trial.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as the jury foreman read the verdict, Lory drank an unknown liquid from an “over-the-counter vitamin bottle.” Deputies later determined the liquid was poisonous.

Lory was taken from DeKalb County Jail to Grady Memorial Hospital where he received treatment.

Lory will be sentenced at a later date. He faces two life sentences plus 40 years, according to the report.
