MIAMI – Surveillance cameras recorded a brutal collision at a Miami intersection that left one dead and sent several others to the hospital.

The video, taken at Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street near Marlins Park, shows a Public Works dump truck slam into a taxi that was lined up behind several other cars at a traffic light.

The truck struck the cab at such high speed and with such force that it sent the cab flying some 50 feet into the intersection.

The passenger riding in the cab died in the crash, according to WSVN. The cab company told reporters she was an elderly woman who regularly took the car service, and the drivers knew her well.

The driver was critically injured and the taxi severely damaged.

Eight other vehicles were also involved, including two buses. First responders treated 10 people at the scene and rushed several others to area hospitals. Hazmat crews responded to the scene to help clean up a diesel fuel leak.

The City of Miami issued the following statement about the accident:

“The City of Miami deeply regrets the loss of life and injuries that occurred as the result of a multi-vehicle crash, which included a Public Works dump truck. There was one fatality on the scene — the passenger in a taxicab. Seven people were transported to Ryder Trauma Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital with varying degrees of injury. A full investigation is underway.”
