Man charged with murder in hit and run death of 55-year-old man

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Petersburg Police have arrested and charged a Petersburg man in the hit and run death of a 55-year-old man in a March 31 crash.

Kermit Johnson, 56, has been charged with felony homicide in the death of Ross Epps Jr. In addition, Johnson has also been charged with a hit and run case from January and driving with a revoked DMV license.

Petersburg Police credit the public, who used text tips and phone tips through Petersburg Dinwiddie Crime Solvers, to help identify and locate Johnson.

The March 31, hit and run occurred in the 1600 block of Youngs Road near the intersection of S. Halcum Drive and Dinwiddie Court. Police discovered Ross Epps Jr., who officials believe was struck by a vehicle. He died at the scene.

Police said anonymous information about the fatal hit-and-run can be sent to Petersburg Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
