BLACKSBURG, Va. — Frank Beamer has been an important part of Virginia Tech football for the last 29 years. Although he won’t be on the sidelines anymore, Beamer will always have a place in the team’s locker room.

Tuesday, the university announced the home locker room at Lane Stadium will be re-named the Frank Beamer Locker Room, in honor of the legendary coach.

The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has approved the name change and a formal re-dedication ceremony will take place once new signage is installed.

“The heart and soul of Virginia Tech football resides within the young men who will use this locker room,” Beamer said.

“The locker room is a place where lifelong friendships form and teams grow stronger together. While this space will always belong to our student-athletes and Hokie Nation, if my name helps remind our student-athletes to give that extra effort on the field, study a little longer or do a good turn for a fellow Hokie, then I’m all for it.”

Beamer retired after the 2015 season as the active leader in wins among Football Subdivision coaches with 280. Beamer went 238-121-2 in his 29 seasons with the Hokies and led the team to 23 consecutive bowl appearances.
