PRINCE GEORGE, Va. - There was an increased police presence outside Prince George County High School Friday morning.

"It's better to be over prepared than under prepared," said one student.

On Thursday night, the Prince George County Police department received a tip that there was a rumor of a school  shooting happening Friday.

Police investigated, but found out that it was just rumors that had spread.

Police told CBS 6 that a parent found out about the rumor through a student and contacted police as a safety precaution.

"It's just so hard to believe," Eddie Farley, "I went to high school 30 years ago, we didn't have problems like that you know, and the way things are today it's just so crazy."

CBS 6 spoke with one high school student who wanted to remain anonymous. He said unfortunately in today's world it doesn't shock him that these kinds of threats happen.

"It phases me but it doesn't at the same time," he said.

Prince George County Superintendent, Renee Williams said as soon as they learned about the possible threat they notified parents.

"With social media, nothing is confidential anymore, so to make sure our students are safe and parents are knowledgeable about it we made the call last night notifying parents about the possibility of a threat to our students," said Williams.

Williams said they take every threat seriously, but there's no danger to students or staff.

"We are planning on a normal day at the high school and our administrators are taking all precautions necessary for this," said Williams.
