Look inside the 82,000 square-foot Cabela’s, to open in April

HENRICO, Va. – The River City, lauded for its love of outdoor sports, will soon have a new outfitter to visit. The 82,000-square foot Cabela’s, located in Short Pump, opens on April 6.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be followed by a weekend-long celebration featuring giveaways, family activities, and guest appearances. And by ribbon cutting, Cabela’s means that an arrow will be shot from a bow by a local Cabela’s employee.

Doors will open for business at 10 a.m. that Wednesday.

CBS 6 took a tour of the store, designed to offer an immersive outdoor experience.

This store will become Cabela’s second Virginia location, the other opened in Bristol in 2015. The retail store will also offer an express café, gun library and Bargain Cave.

Cabela’s has employed approximately 170 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees to staff the location. Corporate officials said that most employees were hired locally.

A complete schedule of events will be available on www.cabelas.com/stores when finalized.

Cabela’s joins a group of outdoor outfitters already in the area: Bass Pro Shops, REI, L.L. Bean, Green Top, Carytown Walkabout Outfitters and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
