RICHMOND, Va. --  A storm system will increase the cloud cover rapidly early Saturday and rain will spread into central Virginia by afternoon.  This rain may mix with some snow across the mountains and northern Virginia.  Highs will range from the mid 40s west and north to the upper 40s/lower 50s elsewhere.  Precipitation will continue as mostly rain for central and eastern Virginia late Saturday into early Sunday, but some snow or a wintry mix will be possible near I-81 and across northern Virginia.

The system will pull away from the area on Sunday and wrap colder air in behind it.  Daytime temperatures will range from the mid 30s to around 40°.  Rain may end as a mix or some wet snow for central Virginia up through the Northern Neck.  Accumulations, if any at all, would be limited to a grassy coating.  A period of snow will occur across northern and northwestern Virginia, and an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in those locations.

It will be cold Monday and Tuesday mornings with a freeze likely in most spots away from the coast.   Lows will drop into the 20s and lower 30s.
