RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Animal Care and Control is offering people a chance to make a new friend on St. Patrick's Day. The center is offering adoptions for $17 dollars. The fee includes spaying/neutering surgery, vaccines, and a microchip.

The promotion comes ahead of the busy spring season, when the shelter starts to fill up.

"Spring explodes things in our shelter, so we'd appreciate support from the community. Come out and see us!" said Christie Chipps, the animal shelter's director.

The special runs through Sunday, March 20.
