RICHMOND, Va. -- Police say a 26-year-old man has been arrested after a shooting in a South Richmond Walmart parking lot left one man wounded Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a shooting at the Walmart on Shelia Lane, near Chippenham Parkway, in South Richmond. A photo of the scene outside the store showed police and crime scene roping off a section of the parking lot.

Police said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot while he was putting a TV into the trunk of an SUV just before noon.

A witness said she was walking to a silver SUV with others, including the victim, when she spotted a group of men sitting in car parked next to their vehicle.

She saw one of them with a gun. That's when the witness said she ran away and then heard gunshots.

Shoppers called 911 and police rushed to the scene.

Another witness said the victim was shot several times.

"The victim was conscious and breathing when he was transported to the local hospital," Maj. Darrell Goins with Richmond police said.

Randall C. Hicks of the 1400 block of Hull Street was arrested Wednesday evening. He was charged with felony counts of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Earlier in the day, Goins said police knew who the gunman was. While they have not released a motive, police said the shooting was not random. Additionally, Goins would not say if the victim knew the suspect.

Shoppers Stunned

"We suspected that something was wrong,"  Marissa Zurita told reporter Sandra Jones.

The concerned shopper noted a massive police presence in the store's parking lot.

"I was nervous because we were just getting here to go shopping," Zurita said.

Marissa Zurita and her friends pulled up to the store on Sheila Lane that turned into crime scene.

"It's crazy to know that. But it's happening a lot now," said Zurita. "It's sad for the person it happened to. I feel bad for him and his family. But I'm just glad there were no other victims. No other people were harmed," said Jen Martin, concerned shopper.

If you have information about the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. Anyone with additional information can submit a news tip here.
