HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A homicide investigation was launched in Henrico after someone found a body lying on the road. The body was discovered at about 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of Alma Avenue and East Laburnum Avenue, less than a mile from Richmond International Raceway.

"The citizen informed officers that a male had been shot in the area of Alma Avenue. Officers located a deceased male on Conway Street near Cliff Avenue. The motive is unknown and the detectives are continuing their investigation," Henrico Police spokesman Lt. Chris Eley said. "At this time, the victim’s identity is not being released pending positive identification and next of kin notification."

Police have also not yet mentioned a suspect in the homicide.

Henrico investigators remained in the neighborhood as the sun rose Thursday looking for clues and evidence.

Neighbors who came outside to find out what was happening, said they were frightened and worried upon learning someone was killed near their homes.

"I wish I could have heard something and called an ambulance, but I didn't hear anything," neighbor Mathilde Johnson said.

A Honda Civic parked near the crime scene was towed away. Henrico Police spokesman Anthony Mehfoud said he believed the car might be connected to the investigation.
