LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — One child suffered a minor injury after a school bus and dump truck collided in Louisa County Monday morning, according to Louisa Sheriff’s spokesman Major Donnie Lowe. The dump truck driver, 65-year-old Elijah C. Minor, Jr., was charged with Following Too Close.
“A 2004 IC school bus (Louisa Co) was stopped in a curve with lights activated picking up a student, a 1994 GMC Dump truck came around the curve did not see the bus lights due to glare from the sun, applied brakes went sideways and struck the bus at an angle causing minor damage to the bus,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. “No one was transported from the scene by ambulance. The bus had approximately 20 students on board as well as the driver.”
The parents of one student decided to take their child to get checked out by a doctor after the crash, Lowe added.
The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m. near Fredericks Hall Road and Rising Sun Road. The road has since reopened following the crash.
