RICHMOND COUNTY, Va. — Three people were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 360, near Route 607, in Richmond County, according to Virginia State Police. The crash was reported Monday at 8:14 a.m.
“A 1996 Oldsmobile was traveling west on Route 360 when the vehicle ran off the road to the right travelling about 550 feet striking a tree and catching fire. Troopers and Deputies immediately arrived on scene and pulled all three occupants from the burning vehicle. CPR and life-saving techniques were administered until fire and rescue arrived,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. “The driver of the 1996 Oldsmobile, Lewis R. Ashton, 80, of Northumberland County, Va., and his two passengers, Garnett W. Wilson, 83, of Northumberland County, passenger, Mabel G. Wilson, 80, of Northumberland County, died at the scene.”
Lewis R. Ashton and Garnett Wilson were wearing their seat belt; Wilson’s wife, Mabel, was not, police said. Speed and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash which remains under investigation. This is a developing story, so anyone with more information can submit a news tip here.
