COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning drivers to use extra caution Thursday night into Friday morning as a storm system brings snow and rainto Central Virginia.
VDOT officials said Thursday crews have been prepping for precipitation and are ready to start spreading salt and sand overnight.
However, because rain is a factor in this storm, crews were not able to pre-treat roadways since anti-icing agents would wash off.
Accordingly, VDOT crews are ready to apply salt to melt snow and ice and spread sand to give drivers added traction.
