RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond-area man pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of coercion and enticement of a minor, and sex trafficking of children In a plea agreement, Stephen T. Callis, 47, admitted to having a sexual relationship and sex trafficking with a 15-year-old girl he met online via KIK Messenger.

Callis said he posed as a 15-year-old girl, “Kayla,” in order to initiate communication with the juvenile victim.

According to the plea agreement, Callis discussed engaging in prostitution with older men with the juvenile victim, and said that “Kayla” would introduce the juvenile to older men for the purpose of prostitution. Callis then used the “Kayla” persona to introduce the juvenile to “Mark,” another alias Callis used online.

Court documents show Callis and the juvenile then engaged in sexual conversations and the girl sent him naked pictures on KIK Messenger. Callis then arranged to meet the girl at a Midlothian hotel, where he paid $60 for sexual services.

Callis and the girl engaged in sex acts in a hotel room approximately seven times, money was exchanged on approximately five of those occasions. Callis admitted he was aware that the juvenile was a minor, according to court documents.

Police began an investigation after the girl’s father found sexually graphic text messages on her phone.

Callis was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 5, 2016.

He now faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, and a maximum penalty of life in prison when sentenced on June 2, 2016.
