NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. -- Hank Breyaert pays close attention to the forecast and any mention of rain put sends him into a slight panic. That is because rain consistently causes his New Kent County yard to flood. No one would fix Breyaert's flooding issues, that is until he contacted the CBS 6 Problem Solvers.

FLOOD 01

"It's unbelievable," Breyaert said. "I called the builder at first, he pawned it off on the developer, the developer pawned it off on VDOT, so finally about three years later I'm talking to you and hopefully we get this resolved."

FLOOD 03

The problem, Hank discovered, was caused by a pipe in a ditch in front of his home. The pipe was too small to handle the rain. He said at one time VDOT agreed to come and fix it, crews even cut up his driveway to start the pipe replacement process.

"They were really good to work with then," he said. "Evidently something fell through the cracks."

Nine months later and the problem still exists.

FLOOD 02

“I just got lost in the loop and no one helped me out anymore," Hank said.

Things quickly changed when he contacted the CBS 6 Problem Solvers.

"After y'all called VDOT, within a day, they called me. That was on a Friday and Monday they were here," Hank said.

FLOOD 05

The department said the pipe would be fixed in a matter of weeks. A problem solved. Relief for Hank.

"I just want to say that you guys are outstanding," Hank said.

A VDOT spokesperson said some staff changes inside the department may have caused communication problems with Hank, and severe weather may also have caused work delays.
