MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Republican presidential candidate, Sen. Marco Rubio made a campaign stop in Midlothian Sunday, two days before the Super Tuesday primary in the Commonwealth.
Rubio held a rally at James River High School, 3700 James River Road, on the school’s athletic field.
He also made three other stops in the state Sunday. The Florida Senator began in Loudoun County with a 1 p.m. appearance at Patrick Henry College. Rubio then made his stop in Midlothian. He then held a 6 p.m. rally at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and an 8:30 p.m. rally at Roanoke College in Salem.
The Florida Senator's recent spat with GOP front-runner Donald Trump continued, with Rubio calling Trump a "con artist" multiple times.
"So here he comes to people that are struggling and he says 'I am a tough guy.' He's not a tough guy. The other day he told a protester 'I want to punch you in the fac.' Donald Trump has never punched anyone in the face," said Rubio. "More than any other election in our lifetime, this election is a generational choice. It is a referendum where we are being asked what kind of country will America be in the 21st century."
At Sunday's rally, former Virginia Governor George Allen backed Rubio, and in a step outside their normal process, the Richmond Times-Dispatch officially endorsed the Florida Senator.
Although momentum in Virginia seems to be growing, Rubio's campaign is currently fighting an uphill battle. Rubio has not won any of the early GOP primaries, and currently sits in second place, tied with Texas Senator Ted Cruz, in the delegate count. Trump is 64 delegates ahead of both Cruz and Rubio heading into Super Tuesday, according to Real Clear Politics.
A recent poll by Christopher Newport University of likely republican voters in Tuesday's primary found that Trump is leading in Virginia, although Rubio had the highest "favorable" rating of any candidate, regardless of party.
On Super Tuesday, 11 states, including Virginia, will be up for grabs in the democratic and Republican presidential primaries.
