Tappahannock donation center overwhelmed with donations

TAPPAHANNOCK, Va. —  Volunteers organizations around Tappahannock are calling for a hold on donations for victims of Wednesday’s tornado outbreak.

A message from Larry Schools and the volunteer organizations collection donations says their centers are at capacity, ” Due to the overwhelming generosity of our community, our neighboring communities, our fellow Virginians and other states; we are at capacity for donations at the Tappahannock center. Until we can start the process of (today and tomorrow) of distribution there is no more room to store items.”

Organizers say while they can’t take most donations there are some items they are still in need of including: Large Totes (hard sided), gift cards to places such as Walmart, Lowes, and Restaurants.

The group is also accepting cash donations.

Monetary donations can be made payable to Essex County Department of Social Services, PO Box 1004, Tappahannock, VA 22560 or you can make an online donation here.

The donated funds will only be distributed to Essex County Tornado victims.

If you would like to volunteer your time clean up help is needed and being organized by the fire department, call (804) 443-0658 for more information.
