ROANOKE, Va. -- After three weeks of trial for the six alleged gang members accused of killing Waynesboro reserve police captain Kevin Quick, the case is now in the hands of 12 jurors.

Tuesday the judge gave out jury instructions for 3 hours, as the indictment against suspects Daniel Mathis, Shantai Shelton, Mersadies Shelton, Kweli Uhuru, Halisi Uhuru, and Anthony Stokes is so large.

The indictment includes 34 counts from racketeering and armed robbery the murder of Quick.

Quick was abducted and found shot to death in Goochland County in 2014.

Prosecutors said four members of the 99 Goon Syndikate, a branch of the Bloods street gang, held Quick at gunpoint in his own SUV, when they discovered his Waynesboro Police ID.

That's when, they said the group decided to drive to a timbered lot in Columbia, Virginia and shot Quick once in the head.

The lawyer for Halisi Uhuru, the alleged Ring leader of the 99 Goons Syndikate, spent Tuesday morning blasting one of the gangs own members.

Leslie Castrtlow took a plea deal before the trial and testified during it. She was one of three suspects initially charged in the indictment to enter a guilty plea.

Uhuru's attorney repeatedly called her a liar saying she changed her story multiple times to help herself out.

This hit on the central theme from all six defense attorneys. The government’s basis for establishing the gang's hierarchy is based off testimony of nefarious people who cannot be believed.

The prosecution countered back calling many points made by defense attorneys distractions.

During trial, prosecutors called more than 50 witnesses, showed more than 400 pieces of evidence, presented forensics and cell phone records linking the gang to Kevin Quick’s murder and more than a dozen robberies over five months.

The prosecution said at one point defense attorney spent more time talking to a witness about his favorite tequila and the fact that investigators found his client’s fingerprints on Kevin Quick’s ID.

They argued that was just one example of the defenses attempt to distract the jury.

Kevin Quick's family has been a constant presence throughout the trial. As closing arguments concluded Tuesday, Quick’s mom began to tear up in the Roanoke courtroom.

The jury, comprised of 8 men and 4 women have now been handed the case and have began deliberations. The final verdict for the six suspects could come at any time.
