CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va.  -- A disabled military veteran reached out to the CBS 6 Problem Solvers asking for help because he and his family were about to be evicted from the home they have rented for the past eight years.

Anthony Johnson and his wife, Torian, have been renting the home from Fannie Mae for a year, but in the fall they learned the agency wanted to sell the home and make them move out.

The couple then got a VA loan approval, but when they offered to buy the home, they said Fannie Mae officials told them  would have to move out before making an offer.

Then the mortgage giant  filed court papers to evict the Johnsons – a date which just a few days away.

“We don't have anywhere to go. We’re looking for extended stays, we’re looking for short leases...Anything we can try to find to get my family into it,” Anthony Johnson said.

Torian Johnson said she feels as if her family is being “done wrong” and does not deserve to be treated this way.

“There is no financial issue with them purchasing the house,” Todd Knode, the Johnson’s attorney said. “They are ready, willing and able to buy the house.”

After the story was broadcast on CBS 6, the family’s attorney said the eviction slated for Tuesday was canceled.

A representative from Fannie Mae said the family has missed some payments, something the Johnsons dispute.

However, the company said they are still willing to allow the family to buy the home if they catch up on rent and can show proof of mortgage approval by the close of business Friday, Feb. 19.
