10-mile traffic backup on I-95 north in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. -- Traffic was backed up 10 miles on Interstate 95 north, near the Boulevard exit in Richmond, due to a crash. The crash was first reported at 6:55 a.m. as numerous crashes were reported around Central Virginia due to black ice.

Virginia State Police responded to around 30 crashes early Wednesday morning in and around Richmond, Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said.

"We are seeing the majority of the crashes on Interstate 64, 295 and 195. The crashes have involved property damaged there has been no serious injuries reported," he said.

Vick advised drivers to use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses and to prepare for a longer than normal commute to work.
