RICHMOND, Va. — Another cloudy afternoon on tap across central Virginia, with a few scattered rain and snow showers. The greatest threat for snow this afternoon will be north of Metro Richmond, from Caroline County to Fredericksburg.

Accumulation is not expected through the evening commute, since temperatures are well above freezing. However, more snow showers tonight could produce a light accumulation of snow overnight.

A brief snow/hail/rain storm moved through the Richmond area in the 2 p.m. hour.

The greatest potential for a coating of snow (less than an inch) will be northwestern, northern, and northeastern (Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula) Virginia.

Colder air will continue to build south into the Mid-Atlantic tomorrow through the rest of the week. Highs will be in the 30s, with overnight lows in the teens and low 20s. A clipper system will bring the possibility of a few more snow showers to the area Friday evening, otherwise mainly dry conditions will prevail through the upcoming weekend.

The coldest air of the season will be over the Mid-Atlantic for Valentine’s Day, with lows in the single digits, with afternoon highs only in the upper 20s. The coldest high temperature so far this winter has been 28 degrees, occurring on three different dates.

Our longer range models continue to indicate another potential system affecting the region on Monday. It doesn’t appear this will be a major winter storm, but winter weather is certainly possible later Monday into Tuesday. Since the details will likely change, we’ll continue to monitor the latest solutions and trends and bring you the latest on what to expect.
