RICHMOND, Va. -- A Richmond woman said she had plans to move into a new apartment until she says the complex took her money and left her in the cold.
Disappointed and getting no help, Carol Durante-Spinner contacted the CBS 6 Problem Solvers.
“I’m really looking forward to moving out because I have grandchildren and children that I would like to be able to come visit me,” she said.
Carol says the Arbors Senior Apartments in Richmond approved her for an apartment, took her deposit, and told her she could move in January 9, but she says the management changed their minds the day she was scheduled to move in.
“She said ‘you don’t make enough money to live here,’” Carol said.
Not only was Carol disappointed, she also says the complex wouldn’t give her money back.
“That’s a good days pay for me. They didn’t refund my deposit and I heard nothing for two weeks,” she added.
That’s why Carol called Problem Solvers.
“I’m very thankful for WTVR.”
CBS 6 took Carol’s complaint to the property owner’s Artcraft Management. In less than 24-hours we were told a refund check would be mailed to her.
“You all got the job done for me and I am very appreciative,” she said.
She’s sharing her story to help others.
“I just hope nobody else has to go through this, because I can bounce back, but there are a lot of seniors out there who aren’t able to bounce back like me,” Carol said.
Carol says she’s bouncing back and restarting her hunt for a new home.
“I’m going to keep my hopes up and maybe I’ll find something soon.”
Carol told CBS 6 she did receive her refund check.
