STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — The Stafford Sheriff’s Office announced 20-year-old Chancellor Tolliver, wanted for the murder of 33-year-old Maurice Williams Scott, has been captured.

“Tolliver was taken into custody this evening without incident after turning himself into authorities in Stafford County. Tolliver is currently being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Officials sought Tolliver in connection with the murder of Scott in the northern part of the Stafford County Sunday morning. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Tolliver on the charges of first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Tolliver was considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting occurred a little before 5 a.m. at the Garrison Woods Apartment Complex on the 200 block of Garrison Woods Drive. Deputies were dispatched there for a report of a male subject who was shot during an altercation and found 33-year-old Maurice Williams Scott unresponsive upon arrival.

Scott died on the way to the hospital despite several attempted live saving measures by rescue personnel.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information on Tolliver’s whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400 or call Crime Solvers at 540-659-2020.
