Richmond, Va. -- Some mid and high level clouds will decorate the skies Saturday afternoon. Even though the morning featured the coldest low temperatures in a week, afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Our normal high for this time of year is 49°.
A strong system will be off the southeastern U.S. coast on Sunday, but should stay far enough away to keep much of the area dry. We will see an increase in cloud cover for central and eastern Virginia during the day, but far southeastern Virginia may see some showers by the end of the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
An upper-level system will swing through late Monday into Tuesday. A few rain showers are possible by Monday evening, but colder air will cause some wet snowflakes overnight. There will be the potential for occasional scattered snow showers on Tuesday, possibly mixing with some rain. If we get enough snow shower activity and cold air, some minor accumulations of a coating to an inch or so may occur. The best chance of that will be well north and west of Richmond. Signs of a stronger coastal system developing enough to affect us still appear fairly low. After highs in the mid/upper 40s Monday, highs will struggle to break 40° on Tuesday.
It will stay cold on Wednesday with the chance of a few light snow showers, mostly early in the day. Highs will be in the upper 30s to around 40°. Thursday will be dry with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. A clipper-type system will buzz by the area Friday evening and Friday night, but as of now, moisture appears limited, so any chances for snow showers would be not be very high. After highs in the lower 40s Friday, it will be colder next weekend.
