HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Henrico students will now get a day off from school on Tuesday, March 1. That day is the presidential primary election in Virginia and the Henrico Electoral Board worried with students in class there could be parking issues, bus disruption and security issues caused by “an influx of visitors during a school day.”
“Our concerns first and foremost focus upon student safety and the integrity of efforts that have been put in place to secure school buildings,” the Electoral Board wrote in a letter to the School Board.
March 1 will now be a student holiday and a staff planning/development day.
“In order to make up for lost classroom time, Wednesday, March 2 will now be a regular full day of instruction for students,” Henrico Schools spokesman Andy Jenks said.
Fifty-three of Henrico County’s 92 polling places are located inside Henrico schools.
