COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — Virginia State Police identified the driver killed in an  accident on I-95 as 21-year-old Kirk R. Carico, Jr. of Montpelier. Troopers responded to the accident in the northbound lane at Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said Carico’s 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on I-95 when it ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. Carico was found dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, investigators said.

Speed was being considered as a contributing factor in the crash.
