York County school teacher shaves head to support student with cancer

YORK COUNTY, Va. — A York County teacher is showing her support for one of her students battling cancer, by shaving her head.

Sandi Murawski, a kindergarten teacher at Magruder elementary, pledged to shave her head if her students raised $500 for their classmate, who is battling cancer.

Her student Gracie, was diagnosed with leukemia and has to be hospitalized for six months.

The school held a fundraiser for her called “Hats on for Gracie,” where students, teachers and staff got to where their favorite hats to school for at least an $1 donation.

The school ended up raising $3,000 in one day to help cover Gracie’s medical costs.

Mrs. Murawski had her head shaved Thursday morning on the elementary school’s morning show.
