CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — After nearly 10 years serving as the Chesterfield County administrator, Jay Stegmaier announced his plan to retire July 1. Stegmaier began his county career with the Budget and Management Department in 1979.

“For over 36 years, I have been blessed with the humbling and deeply rewarding experience of serving the people of Chesterfield County,” Stegmaier said. “As much as I have appreciated the opportunities and enjoyed the challenges, the time is approaching for me to take the leap into the next phase of my life.”

A county spokesman said under Stegmaier’s leadership, “Chesterfield County became a model for other local governments navigating the challenges of providing quality public services with less.”

“The Board of Supervisors will determine the process for filling the position of county administrator,” a county spokesperson said.
