RICHMOND, Va. --  Steadier snow will begin to turn more scattered heading into this evening.  Temperatures will stay in the 20s to around 30° for most of the day.  Wind speeds will increase with gusts over 35 mph in central Virginia and 45 mph near the coast.  Snow will taper off this evening and shut off overnight.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for much of the area through Saturday night.  A winter weather advisory is in effect for far southeastern Virginia due to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.  A blizzard warning remains in effect for northern Virginia.

Additional snowfall totals (from daybreak this morning through midnight tonight) will be heaviest across northern Virginia, and lightest across far southeastern Virginia.

Skies will clear from west to east overnight with temperatures dropping into the teens and lower 20s by daybreak.  Sunday will be mostly sunny and not as windy.  Highs will break above freezing, reaching the mid to upper 30s.  It will be very cold Sunday night with lows in the teens.

Anything that does melt on Sunday will refreeze after sunset, so any surfaces not cleared or treated will become very icy.
