RICHMOND, Va. -- The city of Richmond said it's ready for the snow. Some areas in Central Virginia are projected to receive one foot of snow while other areas across northwest Virginia could see more than 2 feet of snow.

CBS 6 spoke with the department of public works to see what's been done to prepare and we caught up with some drivers who gave their opinion on how Richmond handles the roads compared to the counties.

"We're prepared. At this point we are ready to go," said Sharon North with Richmond Department of Public Works.

As the winter storm moves closer to Richmond, the city said all hands are on deck and everyone's prepared.

"We've been meeting the last few days about all our storm preps making sure all the I's are dotted and the t's are crossed," she said

Those words bring comfort to drivers who said the Department of Public Works usually does good work.

"I'd say Richmond city does a pretty awesome job of handling it," said one driver.

"On a scale of 1-10, I think they’re about do about an 8,” said another.

According to the city there are 50 routes crews are ready to tackle when the snow falls.

"Twenty-five on each side of the river, so we have a compliment of vehicles and a compliment of drivers who will be able to go out and take care of them," North said.

She said primary roads will be the priority.

"Those are the streets that if there is a fire or there is an accident, that police and fire, and ambulances have to get through,” she added.

She said this means residential streets will have to come later.

"We try to get there as quick as we can," North added.

Those we talked to are pretty understanding.

"More people of course are driving the main streets so it needs to be a priority."
