CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va -- Several people in Chesterfield woke up without water Tuesday after a water main broke at their apartment complex. The break happened at Vinings Apartments, off Iron Bridge Road near Chippenham Parkway. Work crews shut water service off to several apartments at around 5 a.m., after the main broke.

Since the temperatures were below freezing Tuesday morning, work crews placed salt on the ground to keep the spilling water from freezing. Several apartment complex resident were asked to move their cars as  a precaution.

Chesterfield utility workers did not have an exact number of people affected, nor could the say how long it would be before water service was restored.

It was not yet clear what, if any, role the sub-freezing temperatures played in the water main break.
