RICHMOND, Va. — A Chester man was charged Tuesday with a federal hate crime after a May 2015 assault on a victim known as C.T. in the indictment.
According to the indictment, James William Hill III, 34, assaulted C.T by punching them because of their actual and perceived sexual orientation.
Hill is being charged under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, if convicted.
