Richmond Police detectives have received numerous tips about the shooting, which was the result of a disagreement between Cheatham and someone else, Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham  said.

"We have already identified a suspect," Durham said. "The detectives are going to the Commonwealth’s Attorney to seek out a warrant for that individual’s arrest."

There were several off-duty Richmond Police officers at the club at the time of the shooting.

"We have four off-duty officers who work this club. It was crowded, about 150 to 200 people inside," said Richmond Police Spokesman Gene Lepley. "When they heard reports shots had been fired inside, the officers went inside the night club and discovered the body."
