GLENDALE, Indiana -- An act of kindness at an Indiana Target was caught on camera and has now gone viral.

A Facebook photo shows Ishmael Gilbert, a Target cashier, helping an elderly woman who was paying for her items with only coins.

Another woman waiting in line, Sarah Bigler, says she was getting annoyed at first, but then realized her daughter was paying attention to how the cashier was treating a stranger.

“When the woman was finished, the employee began ringing up my items and thanked me for my patience. I then thanked him for teaching us patience and kindness by his treatment of that elderly woman,” part of Bigler’s Facebook post read.

“I treat everyone with the same respect and I get it back in return," Gilbert said. "You know quarters, nickels, dimes, pennies and she's 'I apologize' she kept telling me she's sorry and I kept telling her 'you're fine.'"

The woman who snapped the photo and posted it on Facebook says she complimented Gilbert to the store’s manager to let her know of his kindness and patience.

“If you are ever in the Glendale Target, give Ishmael a smile and a nod. The world could use more people like him,” Bigler said.

Target says they usually show appreciation for employees who “go above and beyond.” The company says the cashier will likely receive some kind of gift later this week.
